Styrenated Phenol: A Versatile Additive with Unique Properties
Fengquan 2025
Styrenated phenol (Antioxidant SP, CAS: 61788-44-1) is a pale yellow to amber viscous liquid with the molecular formula C30H30O. It combines anti-aging and antioxidant properties, making it widely used in the rubber and plastic industries as a high-performance multifunctional additive.
Performance Advantages:
Effective Anti-Aging: As a medium-strength anti-aging agent, styrenated phenol significantly protects against thermal oxidation, weather aging, and flex cracking, especially in synthetic rubbers like styrene-butadiene, chloroprene, and ethylene-propylene, as well as in natural rubber products. Its unique ability to prevent gel formation in styrene-butadiene rubber sets it apart from other anti-aging agents.
Non-Staining: Due to its non-migrating and excellent dispersibility, styrenated phenol is particularly suitable for white and light-colored rubber and plastic products, avoiding discoloration issues caused by traditional anti-aging agents.
Chemical Stability: It remains stable under harsh conditions such as high temperatures and light exposure, making it suitable for products requiring long-term weather resistance, such as seals and latex sponges.
Applications:
Rubber Industry: Widely used in products like rubber shoes, bicycle inner tubes, and conveyor belts, with typical addition levels of 0.5%-3%, significantly enhancing thermal oxidation resistance.
Plastics Industry: Used as an antioxidant in polyolefins and polyformaldehyde, with addition levels as low as 0.01%-0.5%, effectively delaying plastic degradation and maintaining mechanical properties.
Chemical Intermediate: It can also serve as a raw material for synthesizing other fine chemicals, expanding its application range.
Packaging and Storage:
Industrial-grade products are typically packaged in 25 kg plastic drums or 200 kg galvanized steel drums and should be stored in a dry, dark place.
With its multifunctionality and environmental adaptability, styrenated phenol has become an indispensable additive in rubber and plastic products, with potential in the field of green materials.
